Copy Cat Improv Games (Theatre Games so Easy a Baby Can Play)

Our latest improv video features our baby improver, Crazy Kat, who shows us how to do the Copy Cat game. This game is similar to the mirror exercise:

Mirror Exercise:
Pair up actors. One actor is the mirror and must copy everything the other actor does.

With the Copy Cat variation, you can also add sounds and copy the noises the actor makes. See the video for an example of Copy Cat with our baby improver.

Here is the Copy Cat video! Enjoy :)

Monologues on Depression

Someone was looking for scripts about depression. She said, "I want to get people thinking that depression isn't just an emotion which can be changed to just like clicking your fingers. I want to make it to show how it hurts people through their life how they hid the pain but inside they're dying. how people can say they understand but they don't and no one else feels the way they do."

Here some monologues I've written that talk about this:

You found me, cast aside, lost and broken. You searched through the rubble to find the severed pieces of my life, and slowly fit them back together again.

Before you, I felt like I was dying. The panic consumed me and squeezed the life from my heart. But I didn’t care. When we are weighed down by the torture of hate, we don’t fear death. There was nothing to live for… until I met you.

You rebuilt me and fixed what was broken. You made me better and pieced me back together in new ways that improved me. With the right parts, I was reborn... and life felt real... and right for the first time.

Superhero Writing and Art

My wife and both enjoy Superheroes (and villains) for our writing and art.

I'm writing a new superhero script now and have two that I have completed:

Superhero Support Group: http://freedrama.net/supers.html A play for six actors.

Protecto (Kid Hero): http://www.freedrama.net/protecto.html A monologue.

Eventually I hope to have enough scripts on this topic for a longer themed play.

My wife does a lot of awesome superhero art. Her Rogue picture from X-Men is very popular but she does a great villain (Harley Quinn):

Free Plays for Teenagers (No Royalty Scripts)

Here are some great play scripts for teenage actors:

1. The Weird, Wild and Wonderful Days of School

http://www.freedrama.net/weirdschool.html

A full length play about young adults who are dealing with the comedy, challenges and changes of life. This play has a flexible cast. Not all scenes need to be performed. And actors can play multiple parts because no characters repeat from scene to scene. The smallest cast you could have by doing all the scripts would be three males and four females. But there are many as 49 speaking roles possible.

2. Teen Angel

http://www.freedrama.net/teenangel.html

A teenage girl gets a chance to help those she left behind. - 5 female, 2 male + extras (drama with suggestions on how to create a musical version)

3. The Hysterical History of the Trojan War

http://www.freedrama.net/troy.html

The Trojan War has never been so funny. This is still Homer's story but with a twist. 13-18+ speaking roles and potential for unlimited extras.

Simple Tip for Better Acting

Someone asked about how to improve their acting performance so the audience enjoyed it more. There is a simple tip... have fun! Successful production in Albania of Somebody Famous (on to Kosovo)

It's great to hear that the production of my play "Somebody Famous" is going well in Albania. http://freedrama.net/prison.html I got a wonderful compliment too that my play was universal, down to earth and humane. Here is an update from the producer:

On behalf of cast and crew of "Somebody Famous" it is my duty to convey to you our congratulations and gratifications for a successful production, opened last night (7th of June) at 8 p.m. in Tirana. The auditorium was full of young and old people, professional theatre-doers and random or regular theatre-goers, where there was a strong feeling throughout the play of an overall joyful and exciting discourse between actors and them. Apart from many ongoing laughs aroused and some claps during the play they were so keen on listening the whole line of the story and it's outcomes unfolding. Great reception at the end, with a long applause.

As translator of dozen of plays, I'm often concerned with the universality of the subjects contained in them and how those will include audience's emotional and thinking process. So, the first time I watch them staged I try to follow this line of discourse. I can definitely say that this happened last night as the play was delivered to the audience. They embraced the story and identified with where the character's were coming from which made the whole plot very engaging to watch as event were disclosing. The play and its words felt very Albanian, but mainly very down to earth and humane, which leads me to congratulate you for a very universally conversing work and for letting us freely to be part of it and me enjoying the work on its translation.

The play will continue to be performed tonight and the following night. And next week it will travel in Prishtina, Kosovo, since it is an Albanian speaking country as well. Then after the summer Theatre season break it will come back on stage in September. If then we will make video of it, I'll make sure to send a copy, so you can have a much better insight on the overall production.

Pass the Ball Improv Games for Kids (with baby improv)

An improv game so easy a baby can play it!

Pass the Ball: All players in a circle. Ask the players to pass a mimed ball to others (one ball at a time). The ball becomes heavier, until it weighs a ton, or extremely light, extremely big (and light or heavy) or extremely small (and light or heavy). Actors need to show the ball's characteristics in the way it gets passed.

Check out the baby improv actor performing Pass the Ball (well, she did a variation called Eat the Ball).

This play uses traditional songs from pioneer times and early American tunes.

This play has a lot of satirical songs which use modern tunes with new silly lyrics sung by Homer and the Homerettes in a modern style chorus.

Teen Angel http://www.freedrama.net/teenangel.html
This play has suggestions of 1950's popular songs that can be used with the script.
