"What I Dress Like" monologue for female - free solo stage play script

"What I Dress Like" by D. M. Larson

ANNA MAY

My name's Anna May - no not Anime! Anna... May!

I am sick of everyone saying that. And to make things worse I have this boyfriend who loves Anime. That's why he said he liked me at first, because my name reminded him of his favorite thing. Not sure how I feel about that now. At first I just was happy somebody liked me. It's never been easy for me to get to know boys. They always freaked me out.

And now I am with a guy who likes to dress me up. I have no clue what he dresses me up as sometimes. I guess it was kind of fun at first. I always liked Halloween. But then I found out some of these costumes were his. He used to wear this... In public... And he's a boy... there ain't no boys back home that dress like this.

I'm tired of it - tired of dressing up - tired of being pretending to be someone else - tired of him.

I just want some guy to like me for who I am - not what I dress like.  I want to be me. Whoever that is.

“The Cynical Minded Professor” free monologue for male or female actress - actor solo stage play script

“The Cynical Minded Professor” a monologue by D. M. Larson

PROFESSOR
Okay class. I know you hate classes that are required for your degree so I am going to try and make this as painless as possible.

Because you're taking a lot of loans, using a lot of credit and building up some serious debt to be here, I don't want this class to be any more difficult than it needs to be. I mean you are going to be paying off these loans for the next 20 or 30 years. It's like you're taking out a mortgage and buying a house. And who can afford a house mortgage anymore when you have all these loans, credit and debts piling up just so you can get a degree in Egyptology or Greek mythology?

That brings me to lesson number one in your Freshman Orientation class. You want to make all your loans worthwhile? You want to be able to pay off your credit card debt when you graduate? Then become a lawyer.

Come on... What's with the moans and growns? Being an attorney can be great. Are you a tree hugger and love the Earth? Be an environmental lawyer. Are you into women's rights? There's a attorney for that. Want to help people who are defaulting on their mortgage and losing their homes or being crushed by credit card debt? There are lawyers for that too. Lawyers make a difference. Lawyers change things. Call an attorney if you want to get things done.

Law not for you? You could play the stock market and do some day trading. Or you could be a software designer.  Maybe be an engineer and figure out new ways to get us the limitless electricity that we demand or come up with alternate fuels so we no longer need gas in our cars. You can still help the world without picking a degree that will drown you in debt that you can never pay back.

If you want to study a dead language or some mythological beast, go hang out in the library or watch the History Channel, but don't run up thousands of dollars in loans to study something that won't pay the bills. A Egyptologist is not going to change the world, but an attorney just might have the power to right some wrong.

Gandhi was a lawyer. So was Abraham Lincoln.  And Nelson Mandela. These are great people that left their mark on history and transformed nations. I'm not telling you to transfer out of your history classes. History has wonderful lessons for us. I'm telling you not to major in it. Learn from history but then USE what you learned. Go out there and change things. And who better to change things than someone who understands how the system works than a lawyer.

Those of you that agree with me will go declare their majors - pre-law, engineering or economics. Those of you that don't, head on over to the library and write me a 10,000 word report on why your major is so awesome and a plan how you are going to pay off all that debt.

Class dismissed.

"Before You Punch Me" monologue for male - free stage play script for teen man boy men

Before You Punch Me

by D. M. Larson

Free 2 minute monologue for male actor

From the published play "Flowers in the Desert"

(ISBN-13: 978-1530169085)

***

LINC
Before you punch me there is something you should know.

This woman we're fighting over is no ordinary woman... You don't know how good you had it.

If I am going to die I want the world to know how great she is... Why do you want me to shut up? You afraid? You afraid I will say something that will hurt you?  You that sensitive? You gonna cry, Softy?

Then listen... Punch me all you want when I am done... Beat me to a pulp but let me say how I feel... For her.. Do this one kindness for her... She's worth it.

Do you know about serendipity?  Word too big for you?  I should stick to one or two syllables when speaking to you...

"Serendipity means a "happy accident" or "pleasant surprise"; a fortunate mistake. Specifically, the accident of finding something good while not specifically searching for it."

That's what our love was... A happy accident.  We didn't plan on this.

She is amazing ... She is so very good... She has made me happier than I thought was possible.  Before her, it was like I was living in black and white and suddenly she brought color to my world.

And by some miracle she chose me.  I thought she was wonderful of course, but I never thought in a million years she'd want me.  She was the princess to my pauper.  The Batman to my Robin.  The Picard to my Wesley Crusher.  She was so much better, and I was so unworthy, yet she wants me.  By some incredible stoke of luck, she wants me.  And her kisses will last me until death... Which might not be very far off.

Yes, we're talking about the same woman, you idiot.

(Takes off glasses)

And now you can punch me.

"Worrying About the Future" A Comedy by D. M. Larson - free short stage play script for two actors - male or female

"Worrying About the Future" is a scene
from the published play "Control the Future" by D. M. Larson

WORRYING ABOUT THE FUTURE
(a comedy)
by D. M. Larson

(Ash is a kid and Drew is an adult. They are at home)

Ash
Can I borrow $5?

Drew
You don’t have a job. How will you pay me back?

Ash
Can I borrow $10?

Drew
Why $10?

Ash
So I can pay you back for the $5 I borrowed.

Drew
Why do you need $5?

Ash
$10

Drew
What’s it for?

Ash
I am going to write a book.

Drew
Oh… so you’re going to buy a notebook and pencils and such.  I’ll give you $5 for that.  What are you going to write about?

Ash
How trick someone out of $5.

Drew
Get back here!

Ash
I’m kidding… actually I want to help people who are scared.

Drew
Scared?  Scared of what?

Ash
It seems like people are scared of a lot of things.  There’s so much to be scared about. People with guns. Losing jobs. Losing your home. I don’t think anyone wants to grow up anymore. What is there to look forward to?

Drew
Is everyone really scared?

Ash
Very.

Drew
That’s cool that you want to help. So what are you going to tell them?

Ash
Well… chapter one… I’ll talk about all the shootings at schools and malls and theaters and such… That one is simple. You just take away all the guns.

Drew
That’s so crazy it just might work.

Ash
And for jobs… we’ll make more jobs.  I mean look at all the things that need to be done. People could clean up trash, pull weeds, help the homeless… there’s all kinds of work that needs to be done.

Drew
How will we pay for it?

Ash
We make the rich pay their taxes.  Everyone pays the same percent.

Drew
Ah, you’re a flat tax supporter.

Ash
Sure… sounds fair… and simple.  Why can’t it be fair and simple? Why do politicians have to make everything so complicated?

Drew
That’s a great question.

Ash
Or we could have a mean people tax?

Drew
What’s that?

Ash
I should write a whole chapter on mean people.  You know, bullies and such.  They should tax them… or fine them… give them tickets or something.  It’s like a swear jar… you know where you put a quarter in it every time you swear.  Well, mean people should get a ticket every time they pick on someone… there are so many bullies… we’d make a lot of money that way.

Drew
Totally. Plenty of adult bullies too. We’d make millions for the economy.

Ash
And then we build everyone a home. That goes back to jobs… one of the jobs we make can be building homes for people who need them.  Then no one ever has to worry about losing them home. We build it and they get to keep it.

Drew
That would be really nice.

Ash
I just want people to look forward to things… and stop worrying about the future.

Drew
Now that I know you’re here to help, I’m less worried.

Ash
I hope people read my book.

Drew
Me too.

Ash
I guess I have to write it first.

Drew
Let me know if you need any help.

Ash
Actually… could you give me a ride to the store?

Drew
Gladly. Let’s go change the world.

I NEED DETENTION (MONOLOGUE)

by D. M. Larson

JIMMY
I need detention. I really need detention. See, there's this girl... I know, I know, it always starts with a girl ... But this girl is special... I mean it this time... Really special. Her name is Harmony... But she goes by Harm. Cute huh? She can harm me any time she wants. And she has too. A couple of times. But I deserved it... Cause I touched her once. I didn't touch her anywhere bad. Just on the shoulder. And she broke my finger. So I guess we kind of have held hands. I was just gonna ask to borrow a pencil. One of those ones she sharpens with her pocket knife and then throws in the ceiling all over school. She even got one in the gym ceiling. You know how high that is? Like 5000 feet. And I just stand under those pencils, hoping one will fall down and I can have one of them for my very own. Something to remember her by. Until I get in to detention.

I gotta figure out some way to get detention because I wanna see her more... Be with her more... And turn Harm into Harmony again... Cause I see that beautiful harmony under all that black and gloom. She just needs a reason to smile and I want to be that reason.

So I have to get detention. What's something good... I mean I want it to be really really good so I get thrown in there a long time... Plus I have to make it worth it... Something great that she can respect... How about giving the principal a wedgie? That would do it... A good old up the back over the head mega wedgie. Let's do this.

    JAMIE

    (Quiet anger)

You hate me don't you? I am never good enough for you.

    (Anger builds)

No matter what I do it's not as good as my sister.  I always have to hear how she would have done it better.  Or how she already did it better.

    (Hurt)

Why does she want to ruin my life?  She just wants to blot me out like I was some sort of mistake... I'm just a copy... A copy of a copy... Not as good as the original... Not as good as you.

    (Sarcastic and bitter)

You are so perfect... Everyone around me is so perfect... And there was nothing left over for me... I am the leftover failures... I am the fatty waste you toss to the dogs.

    (Fury)

Everyone hates me!  Why does everyone think I am so horrible...

(Shakes and tries to hold back the fury)

Probably because I am.  A horrible creature doomed to walk this earth and suffer... For you.

    (Cries uncontrollably... Struggles to speak)

    JAMIE (CONT.)
I'm hurting... Hurting so bad inside.  Cut off from everyone ... Punished for some past life wrongs... What did I do in a past life to deserve this...

Or am I paying for the sins of my father... And mother... Am I your sin?  Or do I remind you of some sin you want to forget?

    (Anger builds)

Or I am a disappointment that keeps disappointing.  I even disappoint myself.

    (Furious)

I will never be my sister.  I don't want to be her.  I hate everything about her!

    (Cries... Sadness)

But I don't want to be me either.  Sometimes I want to fade away... Become a shadow... Fading away... Forgotten... Maybe if you forget about me I won't make you so sad anymore.
