Why is everyone laughing? I don’t understand. What’s so funny?

Stop laughing, please!

Screams of laughter! It’s like you’re all screaming at me. You’re hurting my ears.

It’s not funny. Please stop. Please stop hurting me.

It’s only funny if we all understand the joke.  Except nothing is funny to me anymore. I can’t remember the last time I smiled. Maybe a forced smile or two, but no natural, sneak up on your face, smiles.

The last time I smiled was when I heard a little girl giggling at a picture in a book. She’d turn the page and laugh. She’d turn to the next page and then she’d turn back to the picture again, and giggle the cutest little giggle.

Who was that little girl? I don’t remember who she is.
