"Even Monsters Can Be Princesses" Part 2 family friendly school play for actors of all ages

"Even Monsters Can Be Princesses" Part 2

HENRY
Nothing will make her happy.

(PENELOPE, the servant, goes up to HENRY)

PENELOPE
She did look sad, didn’t she?  She got her feelings hurt.

HENRY
I think she did.  My sister says the meanest things.

PENELOPE
Oh, sorry, my Prince. I spoke out of turn.

HENRY
You know you can talk freely to me. I’m not my sister.

PENELOPE
I try to be more careful when she is around.

(GUARD runs in)

GUARD
Did you see which way the monster went?

HENRY
That way.

(HENRY points to where PRINCESS went, not the direction of DEE DEE. GUARD runs off)

PENELOPE
I thought the monster went that way.

HENRY
Oh, did he mean that one?  I thought he meant my sister.

PENELOPE
You are going to get yourself in trouble.

HENRY
I usually do.

PENELOPE
Look, she’s back.

(DEE DEE Monster returns)

HENRY
Hello, dear monster.  Come back for your crown?

(DEE DEE Monster goes over to thrown and retrieves her blanket)

PENELOPE
She just needed her blanket.

HENRY
She’s just a little monster.

PENELOPE
That’s means there are bigger monsters.

(DEE DEE sadly shakes her head no)

HENRY
You’re the only one?

(DEE DEE nods)

PENELOPE
How sad. You’re all alone?

(DEE DEE nods)

HENRY
Then we will help you.

(DEE DEE shakes her head no)

PENELOPE
Why not?

(DEE DEE shrugs)

HENRY
Are you hungry?  We have food.

(GUARD enters)

GUARD
There it is!  Protect the Prince!

HENRY
No! Wait!

(DEE DEE Monster trips the GUARD and then runs off)

PENELOPE
You scared her away.

HENRY
Leave her alone.

GUARD
But the princess wants that creature captured and punished for damaging her crown.  And yesterday it took her pillow.  And the day before that, it ripped up one of her dresses… and before that…

HENRY

I get the idea.
