Free Online Acting Education Class 2018 Lesson 3

Who are your top 10 favorite actors? Here are my top 10 favorite actors. They are from movies and TV shows I can watch again and again with performances that are memorable and moving. I found that these are based more on my favorite movies and tv shows, but I feel that these actors are the reason these are so great.

#1 Vivien Leigh My favorite actress of all time would have to be Vivien Leigh because of her portrayal of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind. She manages to take a very unlikeable character and turn her into a symbol of power and beauty. The movie is a masterpiece and a wonder to behold and she is at the center of it all, lighting up the screen with her amazing performance.

#2 Robin Williams When I look at his career, he has some pretty amazing performances. He may have started out in a goofy TV role as Mork the alien but he quickly showed he had the ability to do serious work in movies like "The World According to Garp." I was really impressed with his ability to mix comedy with drama in movies like "Dead Poet's Society" which is a movie that inspired me to be a teacher. And he showed an incredible ability to add comedy to a tough subject in "Good Morning Vietnam" where he supposedly did improv in much of the movie. And he even crossed gender lines in the comedy "Mrs. Doubtfire" creating a very memorable character. And one of my favorite movies of all time is "The Fisher King" which he does an amazing job with a character that struggles with his sanity. It is a very moving performance where you gain a lot of sympathy for his character and want to see him find his happy ending.

#3 Loretta Swit Because of her outstanding role in M*A*S*H (my favorite TV show of all time), I have to put her high on my list. She took a character that could have been cliche' (Hot Lips) and gave her tons of character and depth. Her character makes fascinating changes throughout the series and she has some of the best monologues of any tv actor.

#4 Denzel Washington This is an actor who first got my attention when I saw him in the movie "Glory" and he has been impressing me ever since. He has incredible screen presence and always has the audience's undivided attention when he is on the screen. He proved he could cross racial lines and take on roles that were not specifically for a certain race. I really was impressed by his performances in "Cry Freedom" and "Malcolm X" but also liked his work in "Book of Eli" which could have been a mediocre movie if it hadn't been for his powerful performance which gave the movie dignity over other post-apocalyptic fare. Denzel continues to impress me including his recent role in “The Magnificent Seven.”

#5 Elizabeth Taylor Elizabeth Taylor would be next because of her role as Cleopatra. This is another movie that is incredible and Elizabeth Taylor commands the screen. She dominates every moment on screen and really brings this historical figure to life.

#6 Charlie Chaplin This early actor has stood the test of time for me. I find his work to be worthy of study even to this day. I always enjoyed his work but was most impressed by "The Great Dictator" which is a powerful comedy that takes on one of the most powerful leaders of the day (Hitler). He used comedy to make commentaries about the social and moral climate of the world at the time in movies like "Modern Times." And some of his work is just plain fun like the "Gold Rush."

#7 Keira Knightley One of my favorite movies is Seeking a Friend at the End of the World, a very unrated film. She does a very moving performance in this that is very believable and touching.

#8 Kate Winslet No... not for Titanic (sorry, but I'm not fond of Titanic)... but I really liked Kate Winslet in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This movie blows me away with its creativity and I think she does an interesting performance that always draws me in.

#9 Scarlett Johansson I have seen Scarlett Johansson in a lot of movies including Lost in Translation, Captain American, and Lucy. She always manages to hold her own and make an impression in guy dominated movies like the Avengers but I felt like she showed a lot of range in a movie like Lucy.

#10 Hillary Swank I have seen some really impressive performances by Hillary Swank, especially Million Dollar Baby. I haven't watched any of her movies recently but her performance was memorable enough to make this list.

Who are your top 10 favorite actors? In your journal, write about why some of the actors are on your list.

    1. I chose this list because these people have consistently delivered seemless acting in difficult roles they made look easy and always are the part and not the actor when I watch them on screen. Routledge is so underated. Her comedic brilliance as the clueless Hyacinth can't be matched. She is equally adept at Shakespeare. The others are self explanatory.

    3. Angelina Jolie
    4. Lana Parrilla
    5. Scarlett Johansson
    6. Gugu Mbatha Raw
    7. Dorothy Dandrige
    8. Anne Hathaway
    9. Marilyn Monroe
    10. Meryl Streep

This might be an unusual combination but I picked them because I think they are brilliant performers and they are some of the ones who I looked up to at some point and inspired me to act.

  25. 1. Emma Watson: following her story, watching her grow up, seeing how friendships and heartaches made her learn and improve in Harry Potter was an unforgettable experience I will never forget. Every time I watch the Harry Potter movies it’s moves me how well, and how magnificent she is. Her views and opinions never change for anyone, she’s a powerful feminist I look up to everyday. Her part in Beauty and the Beast was incredible and hearing her voice, how shocking it was to see the woman I look up to be able to sing also was just eye opening.
    2. Thomas Brodie Sangster: Followed his on screen story through the maze runner series, and even saw him as a child in Nanny McPhee, saw his teenage years in Pinocchio, just watching him, his actions, his acting improvement during my childhood was a blessing.
    3. Leonardo DiCaprio: Seeing him for the first time in Titanic, and watching how well he can portray characters in many movies and shows, every character different from the other, was incredible, and not to mention his hot looks when he was a teenager. ;)
    4. Robin Williams: This man right here made me the happiest little girl you can imagine, hearing his voice as the Genie in Aladdin, and seeing his character fight an illness In the movie “Jack” filled me with hope, happiness, faith, and tons of emotions. Reading his quotes daily, he helped me see I’m not alone, he understood too. When he died I was a mess, still am.
    5. Owen Wilson: My favorite comedian, seeing him portray a father who cared for a beautiful creature in Marley and Me, and then seeing him play an adult with no job who goes and works for google with a bunch of college students made me see how incredible it is, and how you can be anything in the acting world, it’s beyond your imagination.
    6. Jennifer Anniston: A beautiful Woman who I can spot out in any movie or show possible. Watched her character build relationships in the show “Friends” and then saw her comedian side with the movies “Just go with it” and “Were the Millers”. Also saw her portray a stressed mother who also has a soft side in Marley and Me. (Her and Owen were my favorite onscreen couple ;) )
    7. Patrick Dempsey: Following his Journey throughout Greys Anatomy and then seeing him in comedies later on after his death on that show was a learning outcome for me, letting me see that you can branch off into any catergory in the acting world with experience.
    8. Tom Felton: Draco Malfoy was the main character I looked up to the most on Harry Potter, his acting skills made me know that it wasn’t his choice to be on the dark side, and that’s why he couldn’t kill Dumbledore. It’s because of him and his talent that I understood the books and movies better.
    9. Scarlett Johansson: Seeing her portray a hopeless romantic in several movies, but then seeing her as a brave fearless woman in Captain America: Civil War opened my eyes to the acting world, and really showed me what the word “acting” meant.
    10. Adam Sandler: My emotions weren’t complete without this comedian. This guy right here with his humor and ability to show that through a screen will never cease to not impress me.

  26. My Top Ten Favorite Actors

Jake Gyllenhaal: I’ve recently just watched his movie “Stronger”, and I have came to the conclusion that I am absolutely in love with his acting. I was truly impacted by this film. It reminded me to be grateful who the little things we normally take for granted everyday. I also watched “SouthPaw”. In SouthPaw I believe that Jake really dug deep into himself to find/bring out some of the emotions that his character (Billy Hope) was experiencing. I can only imagine how emotionally raw he was after filming intense scenes in this movie. He also dramatically changed his appearance to look like his characters. I am truly amazed by his acting .

Nina Dobrev: Nina’s work is truly captivating. Her ability to play multiple roles during the same period of time in the Vampire Diaries series is really shocking. She did an amazing job playing all of her insanely different characters. She made each story unique to each of her characters. She also accurately portrayed many emotions each each of her characters. She did such an amazing job that it took awhile for me to realize she was playing all of the doppelgänger roles. This highly contributes to why she is one of my favorite actresses.

Daniel Kaluuya: The movie “Get Out” is off the charts, thanks to Daniel’s acting. As the movie progresses you can clearly tell that Chris (The character he portrayed) was getting more uncomfortable and uneasy. His acting is exceptional and gave the movie a hint of suspense. His acting in Black Panther and Black Mirror is also off the charts. He is definitely one of my favorite actors.

Jacob Tremblay: Most people underestimate or overlook young actor’s talent just because of their age. But I believe this makes an actor even more amazing/ talented. Jacob Tremblay is a prime example of this. In the movie “Before I Wake” Jacob amazingly portrayed his character’s fear and unwillingness to fall asleep. He also did a great job in the movie Wonder. When watching the movie I was really touched by his character not fitting in but still finding his way through his social/school life. He is an amazing young actor.

Chloë Grace Moretz: Chloë is one of my favorite actresses because I almost always enjoy all of her work. I really enjoyed her role in the 2013 remake of Carrie. The last scenes of the movie is what really amazed me. When her character “Carrie” started using her power, and even when she was having fun at prom was really shocking and Captivating.

Noah Schnapp: His work in “Stranger Things” Season Two is AMAZING! I really was touched by his acting. Whatever he felt, I felt. I truly felt his pain was real and often cried because of what he was going through. I also was astonished by his”PTSD” episodes when he visit the upside down. His acting is indescribable and leaves me speechless. Hands down he is a phenomenal actor.

Micheal Rainey Jr.: I enjoy almost all of his work, but the movie “LUV” was truly touching and sad. Micheal has an astonishing range of emotions that he can portray. He proves this in throughout the whole movie “LUV” but especially when is uncle dies in the end. He is a great actor.

Zendaya: I used to watch Zendaya on Disney Channel and I always loved her. Her quirky, nerdy, and dramatic characters were inspiring and entertaining to watch. I recently just watch “The Greatest Showman” and was highly satisfied with her acting in the movie. She is truly wonderful.

Micheal B Jordan: I found out about his incredible ability to act when I watch “Friutvale Station”. He accurately portrayed Oscar Grant the the events leading up to his tragedy. Ever since then he has never failed to impress me with his work.

Shailene Woodley: Her character development throughout the divergent series convinced me to add her to my list. I enjoy Insurgent and Allegheny more though because I fell as if she had more character development during these two films.
