SNOW
Hello, good mother.
(SNOW and RED run up and hug their mother)
ROSE
What have you brought us?
MOTHER
I have treats for your little forest friends.
SNOW
Are these the cupcakes I helped bake?
MOTHER
Yes, they turned out beautifully.
(RABBIT, DEER, BIRDS and other animals return)
ROSE
Sorry I wasn’t around to help. I… uh… had a thing to do… very hard work.
MOTHER
Playing again.
SNOW
Chasing butterflies.
ROSE
That’s hard work.
MOTHER
Carrot cake for the rabbits.
(SNOW gives RABBIT cupcake)
RABBIT
Delicious.
MOTHER
Wheatgrass cake for the deer.
DEER
Lovely!
ROSE
Wheatgrass?
SNOW
It’s very healthy.
ROSE
It’ll never catch on.
SNOW
And the rest are for the birds.
(BIRDS gather for the cupcakes)
BIRDS
Mi! Mi! Mi!
ROSE
They’re so cute! I just wanna grab them and squeeze them.
(BIRDS scatter as ROSE chases them)
SNOW
Rose loves the animals too much.
MOTHER
She’ll never learn that they don’t like to be chased.
(ROSE chases the animals across the stage and they are giggling)
SNOW
They might like it a little.
